One question I hear constantly from guests: “When’s the best time to visit Cary?” The honest answer: it depends on what you love. This town packs an impressive event calendar into every season. Here’s your month-by-month guide.

Spring (March-May)

April 11: Pimento Cheese Festival — Yes, this exists. The nation’s only festival dedicated to the Southern staple features 50+ food vendors serving creative pimento cheese dishes, live performances, and family activities at Downtown Cary Park.

April 18: Fest in the West — Western Cary’s family celebration at Mills Park includes two performance stages and a FREE petting zoo with llamas, a potbelly pig, and bunnies. Kids love it.

April 25: Spring Daze Arts and Crafts Festival — Fred G. Bond Metro Park hosts 100+ artists, three entertainment stages, and Earth Day celebrations. More intimate than its August sibling.

Summer (June-August)

June-August: Koka Booth Amphitheatre Concerts — The NC Symphony calls this outdoor venue home each summer. Pack a picnic, spread a blanket on the lawn overlooking Symphony Lake, and enjoy world-class performances under the stars. Throughout summer, various touring acts and festivals fill the calendar.

August 22-23, 2026: Lazy Daze Arts and Crafts Festival — The crown jewel. Sunshine Artist Magazine named it the #1 Top-Rated One-Day Festival in the Nation. In 2026, Lazy Daze celebrates its 50th anniversary with 250+ exceptional artists, four entertainment stages, 25+ food vendors, beer garden, and Kid Daze activities featuring a new Kid Collectors Market. Mark your calendar now—this is the Cary event.

Fall (September-November)

October: Hum Sub Diwali Celebration — Koka Booth Amphitheatre hosts this all-day Festival of Lights with music, dance, theater, a handicraft bazaar, Indian food, and fireworks over Symphony Lake. Free admission; $10 parking.

October: Triangle Oktoberfest — German food, beer, and celebration at Koka Booth. Self-explanatory.

October 31, 2026: Cary Band Day — The 67th annual competition (themed “SCary Band Day” for Halloween) at Cary High School is one of the oldest and most prestigious marching band events in the nation. 30+ bands, 7,000+ spectators, full-day competition. Tickets: $18 general admission.

November-December: NCFC Youth Showcase Series — WakeMed Soccer Park hosts the Triangle’s largest annual youth sporting event with ~1,600 teams across four weekends. If your family is in town for soccer, you’re joining $13.6 million in economic impact.

Winter (November-January)

November 15 – January 11: NC Chinese Lantern Festival — This is genuinely magical. Koka Booth Amphitheatre fills with thousands of handcrafted illuminated lanterns, cultural performances, and interactive elements. Over 100,000 visitors attend annually, generating $8 million in economic impact. Go on a weeknight to avoid crowds.

December: Heart of the Holidays — Downtown Cary transforms with holiday events, including FREE ice skating at Downtown Cary Park.

Year-round Saturdays: Cary Downtown Farmers Market — Since 1994, local produce, meats, dairy, and artisan goods sourced within 100 miles. Live music April-October. Accepts SNAP/EBT.

Planning Your Festival Trip

Events like Lazy Daze, the Chinese Lantern Festival, and major soccer showcases fill accommodations quickly. My Cary Hideaway offers a home base just minutes from downtown venues, Koka Booth, and WakeMed Soccer Park.

For the biggest events, book 2-3 months in advance. For everything else, two weeks usually works—but Cary’s growing popularity means earlier is always better.

Whatever season you choose, Cary delivers something worth celebrating.
