I’ll be honest: most visitors assume Cary is a suburban sea of chain restaurants. They’re wrong. This town has a food scene that rivals (and often surpasses) downtown Raleigh—you just need to know where to look.

After years of hosting guests at my Cary Hideaway, I’ve refined this list to the spots that consistently impress. Consider this your insider’s eating guide.

The Essentials

La Farm Bakery (4248 Cary Parkway) isn’t just a restaurant—it’s an institution. James Beard recognized, owner Lionel Vatinet crafts 15+ bread varieties daily from a European hearth oven. The white chocolate baguette is legendary. The café at the Cary Parkway location has stone walls and perfect croissants. Go early.

Herons at The Umstead Hotel delivers Five-Diamond dining with locally inspired seasonal tasting menus. Garden views, art-filled rooms, and James Beard-recognized excellence. This is your special occasion spot.

MC Restaurant hides in a historic cottage downtown. Chef Michael Chuong’s modern Asian cuisine changes weekly—beautiful plating, thoughtful preparation, and dishes you won’t find anywhere else in the Triangle.

Locals’ Favorites

Peck & Plume (in The Mayton Hotel) does Southern-influenced American right. The shrimp and grits are exceptional, brunch is outstanding, and the patio dining adds ambiance.

Kababish Cafe (107 Edinburgh S Dr) delivers authentic Pakistani and Indian cuisine with surprising style. Live music on Fridays, locals swear by the Haleem and Nihari. The Falooda dessert is worth the trip alone.

Taipei 101 serves the Triangle’s best Sichuan and Taiwanese food. Authentic dim sum, hand-pulled noodles, and flavors you won’t find elsewhere. Must-try: the griddle chicken and sesame chicken.

Bosphorus Restaurant (329 N Harrison Ave) is a strip-mall hidden gem serving authentic Turkish and Mediterranean cuisine. The mezze platters, Adana kebab, and house-made baklava transport you.

The Secret Everyone Misses

H Mart Food Court might be Cary’s best-kept dining secret. Inside this Korean grocery store, you’ll find a food court with:

  • Love Bao: Authentic Taiwanese
  • Thai Koon Nine: Thai specialties
  • Mat Jib: Korean corn dogs

No pretense, incredible flavors, ridiculously affordable. Locals eat here constantly.

Pizza Worth the Debate

  • Pizzeria Faulisi: Neapolitan-style from a wood-burning stove; they also run a “Super Secret Sandwich Club”
  • V Pizza: Wood-fired Neapolitan with great wings
  • Di Fara Pizza Tavern: Uses authentic NY water for their dough

Sweet Endings

  • FRESH. Local Ice Cream: Locally sourced, monthly rotating flavors; the midnight brownie is addictive
  • Andia’s Ice Cream: Over-the-top shakes and creative flavors
  • Goodberry’s Frozen Custard: The best. Daily rotating specials.
  • Geluna Gelato: Small-batch Italian artisanal
  • Annelore’s German Bakery: Traditional German recipes with imported ingredients; try the soft pretzels and whoopie pies

Brewery Scene

Bond Brothers Beer Company earned USA Today’s “Best New Brewery in the Country” title. Their 9,000-square-foot downtown space includes a beer garden.

Vicious Fishes and South Line Brewing share the West End district with an expansive outdoor beer garden and live music. Train-themed beers honor Cary’s railroad heritage.

Fortnight Brewing is Cary’s oldest brewery, specializing in British-style cask ales—something you won’t find elsewhere in the area.

The Williams House occupies a restored historic building and serves craft cocktails, beer, wine, and cider alongside excellent coffee.

Coffee Culture

  • Coffee Studio (Downtown Cary Park): The new favorite; exceptional flat whites
  • BREW Coffee Bar (near Cary Theater): Impressive latte art, also serves beer and wine
  • Crema Coffee Roaster: On-site roasting, Korean-French pastry fusion
  • Esteamed Coffee (Downtown): Nonprofit employing adults with disabilities; great mission, great coffee

Quick Tips

  • Downtown Cary has a social district—you can “sip and stroll” with alcohol in to-go cups from participating venues (11 AM-11 PM)
  • Reservations recommended for Herons and MC Restaurant
  • Farmers Market runs year-round on Saturdays

This list represents hundreds of meals and consistent quality. Explore confidently.
